Room to Grow Podcast with Emily Gough

Jan 28, 2020

First up: if you're a biz owner and you've ever even considered starting a podcast or feel left behind as you watch those around you build powerful connections, grow their businesses and get their voice heard in the podcasting world, my course Podcasting for Impact is available for a very limited time.  Doors close first week of February! You have unique stories and experiences that others need to hear.  Join now to get a jump start on those big goals of yours and stop feeling like you're sitting on the sidelines.

Onto the episode...

If you're feeling like you've "fallen off the wagon" a month into the new year, this episode is for you. (This is also why I don't recommend making BS New Years resolutions, but I digress)

I believe people are capable of change.

It's not to say that everyone *does* change, but I think that fundamentally we as human beings have the capabilities to change and become better versions of ourselves.  But this can present a few different issues.

For one thing, we often doubt our own abilities to change or get so comfortable believing ourselves to be one way, that we box ourselves in and never even allow ourselves to grow and evolve in the ways that we could.

And then even if we do change, it often makes people around us uncomfortable.  They're used to use being one ways, and changing that means that we're altering the rules of the game without their permission.

We all do this.  We create a version of someone in our heads based on the knowledge and past experiences we have with them, and it can be quite jarring to realize that they are someone else, even if it's for the better.

I'm here to remind you that you don't have to be who you were.

You don't have to be the exact same person you once behaved as. Think about who you were 10 years ago and how much you have grown and evolved in that time, and you probably do things or have developed habits or skills that you never would have believed possible back then.  If you met someone from 10 years ago for the first time today, they would be meeting someone completely new in many ways.  And how they react to that new version of you is not your responsibility.
