One question that comes up a lot this time of year: how to handle the winter blues.
It's a very real issue, and can hit each of us in different and unique ways, but the good news is that there is a lot we can do to make things just a little bit brighter, and it starts with a mindset shift.
Rather than complaining and commiserating about winter, we need to shift our focus towards how to embrace it instead.
Hygge (pronounced hoo-ga) is something that has gained popularity over the past few years. It's a Danish word and the official definition I found listed it as: "a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture)."
When I learned about this concept a few years ago, I absolutely loved it. The entire concept is based around making the most of the season and the beautiful things it has to offer, taking advantage of the opportunity to slow down, self-care the crap out of yourself and appreciate the beauty in the colder, darker months.
